In the past 25 years, the Medford Cooperative has grown from doing $10 million in sales, to this year hoping to surpass $90 million.
With that strong growth behind them and an eye to the future, the cooperative has announced a major expansion of their flagship supermarket, and a new name and product lines their hardware store in Medford.

September 22, 1999 New financing plan for Middle School approved by Board
In order to lower the amount of money to be borrowed for the Medford Area Middle School construction project, a new financing plan was approved by the Board of Education.
The plan was necessary because Medford Area School District Administrator Paul Schoenberger believes the cost of the project will rise above the $6,368,880 which was approved in the referendum held in April. He stated this was due to the ever increasing costs of construction.
50 Years Ago September 26, 1974 Equalized Value In County Goes Up 29 Percent
The equalized value of taxable property in Taylor county is up 29 percent this year from 1973 as compared to the state aggregate increase by 13.45 percent. Figures were released last week by deputy revenue department secretary Walter F. McCanna, Madison.
Taylor county had a full value in 1973 of $124,495,600 and this year it climbed to $160,608,450. The percentage of equalized value increases in surrounding counties included Chippewa at 20.53 percent, Clark at 27.66 percent, Langlade at 20.12 percent, Lincoln at 17.18 percent, Marathon at 11.97 percent, Price at 19.97 percent and Rusk at 24.29 percent.

September 29, 1949 County’s Valuation Shows Slight Increase
County Committee Accepts Supervisor’s Equalization Figures According to figures released by W. F. Rohlf, Wausau, supervisor of assessments, Taylor County’s 1949 equalized valuation increased $694,290 over 1948. The figure represents the combined total of real estate and personal property. The real estate increase was $452,700, and the personal was $241,590.
September 25, 1924 Relief Work Continues 100 Years Ago Taylor County Humane Society was at work Monday morning, organizing relief for the storm sufferers, and by Monday evening had sent boxes of clothing and food to those in need. Twenty two boxes of clothing and bedding have been distributed and more is going out daily.
Several hundred articles of clothing have been collected but there is still need of bedding, mattresses, and Eds. Also men’s clothing. Send this to the court house this week to Mr. Kolb’s room or phone 4313 and the relief committees will call for clothing, furniture, or useful donations of any sort.
125 Years Ago September 23, 1899 The Colonial Tea Party is is the Social Event of the Week
The social event of the week, if not of the season, was the colonial tea party given Thursday afternoon by Mrs. L. W. Gibson and Mrs. C. T. Kennedy at the palatial residence of the former. It was to be a real old fashioned gathering and so it was. It is more than likely had George Washington and the widow Curtiss been present they would have found themselves very much at home and it is safe to say that no more elaborate social entertainment was ever given in the good, old colonial days.
