Rain on a wedding day is supposed to bring good luck to the bride and groom. Sue Emmerich of the Medford Area Chamber of Commerce suggested the same sort of thing is true for businesses as she spoke on Sept. 4 at the groundbreaking ceremony for Enerquip’s building expansion.

September 8, 1999 Willman runs wild Medford football downs Colby 34-18
Eric Willman’s record-setting night lifted the Medford Red Raiders to a much-needed 34-18 non-conference win Friday over Colby in the football home opener at Raider Field.
Willman, a senior running back, scored a record five touchdowns and piled up 377 all-purpose yards during his career night. One of the scores was a 99-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, obviously another school record. Willman rushed for 257 yards on just 15 carries, an average of 17.1 yards per carry.
September 12, 1974 Headstart Grant Approved by HEW 50 Years Ago Congressman Dave Obey, Wausau, announced Friday approval by the department of health education and welfare (HEW) of a Headstart grant for the Indianhead community action agency located in the Rusk County Courthouse, Ladysmith.
The grant will provide $135,645 for preschool training for 105 children from low income families on a part-day basis. Stanely Palhuta is the project director. Counties served include Burnett, Rusk, Sawyer, Taylor and Washington.
75 Years Ago September 8, 1949 Stetsonville Firemen Build New Truck; Now Adding to Hall
Stetsonville’s volunteer fire department has completed the building of a new fire truck and is now engaged in constructing a 32x40 tile addition to the 24x30 fire hall.
A used cab-over-engine Chevrolet chassis was purchased, and with George Baumer, fire chief, as supervisor, a chemical and supply truck was built to the department’s own specifications.
100 Years Ago September 11, 1924 Medford Public School Enrollment Reaches 664
Medford’s public school enrollment reached the total of 664 yesterday. In addition to these 664 the usual number of children are enrolled in the Catholic and Lutheran parochial schools of the city and in the Taylor County Normal Model School. The grade enrollment is 362.
The high school enrollment is 302, which is 20 more than at the opening of school last year. The total enrollment last year was 294. The numbers in the four high school classes are as follows: Freshmen…100 Sophomores…78 Juniors…77 Seniors…47

Labor Day. Monday was Labor Day, the day that should be the greatest day of the year. It is more significant than any of our other national holidays, and it is observed the least. In Medford no one would have known that there was a such a day, had not the majority of our citizens found occasion to visit the post-office, which was of course found locked.
