Joyce G. Hamelund, 88, of Medford, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford.

She was born April 19, 1936 in Sussex, to Bernard and Anna (Arvoy) Joecks. She grew up in Lannon and graduated from Menomonee Falls High School.

Joyce married Vern Molkenthine and later divorced. Together they had two daughters, Sandra and Cynthia.

She then married Richard Hamelund in 1966, and together had two sons, Richard Jr. and Randy. They resided in Germantown where she worked at Central Lab. They moved to the Medford area and in 1972 purchased a tavern/store, “Dick & Joyce’s Bar & Store,” at Whittlesey corner which they owned and operated until 1984.

Once they sold the store, Joyce worked for Weather Shield for 15 years until she retired in 2007.

Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the choir and the ladies aide. She was also a cook at the Chelsea Conservation Club. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her grandchildren, reading and spending time at the library in Medford; puzzles and embroidery.

She is survived by her children, Cindy (Kurt) Rymer of Medford, Randy Hamelund of Medford, Richard Jr. (Melody) Hamelund of Green Bay; a sister, Sally Molkanthen; grandchildren, Jen (Ali) Banisadr, Joshua (Connie) Rymer, Ashley (Alan) Geiger, Chelsea (Christopher) Haase, Cassidy Hamelund, Dakota (Johanna) Hamelund; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Renae, Logan, Margaret and Bahar; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sandra; sister, Joan Dejewski; and brother-in-law, Roger Molkanthen.

A visitation to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, 2024 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford, with a prayer led by Rev. Ralph Shorey at 7 p.m. to conclude the evening.

Private family interment will be held at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Whittlesey.

Memorials are appreciated and may go to the Francis L. Simek Memorial Library in Medford.
