Jean M. Kostner, age 94, of Medford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024 at Aspirus Country Gardens Assisted Living in Medford and while under the care of St. Croix Hospice. Jean was born July 19, 1930 in Chicago, Ill., to Einar and Lillian (Abrahamson) Reierson. They moved to Medford when Jean was 16 years old. She graduated from Medford High School in 1948, where she made lifelong friends.

On Aug. 5, 1950 she married Dr. Donald Kostner. They resided in Illinois for a time where Jean worked as a secretary for Phillips Petroleum, and then for St. John of the Cross Church. They later moved back to Medford.

Jean was a talented painter and especially enjoyed painting seascapes. She also enjoyed watching the NBA and cheering on the Packers.

She is survived by her children, Sandra (Norman) Baxa of Yorkville, Ill., Richard “Dick” (Julie) Kostner of Abrams; a brother, Robert (Pauline) Reierson; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Julian) White, Nathan (Sarah) Baxa, Christopher (Amanda) Baxa, Adam (Shannon) Baxa; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by sistersin- law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald on Dec. 22, 1980; her great-granddaughter, Madison Baxa; and her special friend, Leon Smedegard.

Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband, Dr. Donald at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Medford in a private ceremony.
