Last year Taylor County had a very creditable exhibit at the State affair, and the benefits that accrued cannot be figured in dollars and cents. It proved a wonderful advertisement for our county, and many have interested themselves in sending prospective settlers this way that otherwise would never have thought of Taylor county and its wonderful natural advantages.
August 28, 1924 Editors Make Annual Trip in Southeastern Part of Wisconsin
Visit Four Wonderful Farming Counties and Enjoy Much and Varied Entertainment Editors and their wives from all over Wisconsin, including the Star-News editor and his frau, gathered in Milwaukee last Friday for the annual summer auto tour of the Wisconsin Press Assn.
Friday was spent in Milwaukee, where at the Auditorium the Graphic Arts Exposition had been on all week. It was a very fine display of machinery used in the printing trades. Friday evening the editorial party were guests of the Saxe Amusement Co. at their new Wisconsin Theatre and later at a dancing party at their new Wisconsin roof garden.
August 25, 1949 Throngs Fill Grounds For 1949 County Cooperative Youth Fair
The 1949 Taylor County Fair is now history, but it will go down in the annals as one of the most successful the organization has ever presented. Estimates by those who were on the grounds during the four days are that 10,000 visitors filled the grounds from Thursday through Sunday.
Carl Zoerb, secretary, stated this week that the officers were more than pleased with the cooperation received from the junior and senior club leaders, and others. “Without this excellent assistance we never would have been able to handle all of the work with the ease with which it was done,” he stated.
August 29, 1974 Mental Health Services Here Are Explained
Taylor county unified services board announces the expansion of the mental health services available in Taylor county. Psychiatric social work services are now available two days a week at the offices on the second floor of the administration wing of Memorial Hospital of Taylor County. Each Monday and Thursday Kenneth Neumann of the psychiatric department of the Marshfield Clinic is available for counseling with the persons who seek help with their individual or family problems.
August 25, 1999 Area schools stack up well vs. others in state
Based on 1999 test results, Wisconsin high school students continue to compare favorably with those elsewhere in the country, and Medford students rank in the top 20 percent of all schools in the state in each of the five subject areas tested.
August 28, 2014 Taylor County courthouse centennial
This year, Taylor county is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the current courthouse. Its brick walls, ornate trim and copper dome dominate the Medford skyline today as they have for the past 100 years.
