1937-2024

John (Jack) A. Gorichs, 86, of Medford, died peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Aspirus Care and Rehab under the care of Hope Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 31 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Fr. Patrick Mc Connell will be officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

A luncheon and celebration of life reception will be held at BS Bar, W4782 WI-64, Medford, immediately following the service.

John was born on Aug. 26, 1937 in Whittlesey to August and Florence (Fruzen) Gorichs. He attended school in Westboro and graduated in 1956. On May 17, 1958, John was united in marriage to Joan Riegert at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. They made their home in Medford together with their four children.

Jack worked at the Medford Creamery before his career with Midwest Breeders/21st Century Genetics as an artificial inseminator until his retirement in 1997. He put on many miles and made many friends. Jack was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Medford Fire Department for many years.

Jack enjoyed curling, hunting/fishing, and spending time with his family at Lake Holcombe. He and Joan took many trips around the United States and overseas, and especially enjoyed their winter trips to South Padre Island, Texas. In later years, Jack enjoyed watching Wisconsin sports teams on television and playing Bingo – always sharing his prizes with his great-grandchildren.

Jack is survived by Joan, his wife of 66 years; children, Laura (Ronald) Wolf of Ladysmith, Debra (Kurt) Metz of Medford, Michael of Duluth, Minn., Mary (Larry Coulthurst) Nelson of Rib Lake; nine grandchildren, Kelsey (Brent) Sisko, Alex (Maria) Wolf, Erich (Amber) Wolf, Kroy (Shalon) Nernberger, Joel (Christy) Nernberger, Heidi (Nick) Gebert, Ash (Elyse) Nelson, Nik (Emily) Nelson, Jenna (Dillon Witt) Nelson; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Floryance of Janesville, and Gerald (Barb) Gorichs of Norwell, Mass.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Keith Gorichs, Donna Glamann, Sandy Anderson, Betty Gorichs in infancy; and son-in-law Rick Nelson.

The Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family. Memorials can be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or Hope Hospice.
