The annual Hooked on Outboards car show was held August 3. The first place winner was Jason Harder with a 1973 Chevy Impala. Seconds place winner was Dori Slater with a 1997 Ford Ranger. Third place Al Marek with a Triumph TR6 and fourth place went to Russ Dassow with a 1965 Pontiac GTO.

Within the past two weeks there has been something of an epidemic among the cattle hereabouts and many have died. R. Kiessling, has lost five head, John Burngrueber two head and C. Blumenstein one. All of these cattle have been pastured along the banks of the river and have quenched their thirst from this body of water. The theory is advanced by one of the losers that the water has been poisoned and charges the death of cattle directly to this cause.

100 Years Ago August 7, 1924

Albert Leffel, Dick and Fred Mead and Fred Martin auto to Riehter’s last Tuesday afternoon on a fishing trip. Reports are that Fritz fell in the lake and raised the lake several inches. Leffel assured us that the fish didn’t bite Fred, although several threatened to eat his angleworms.

August 4, 1949 Commission OKs New Electric Rates Rate Adjustments Substantially As Utility Requested

The objections that the Medford electric utility commissioners offered to the rate structure ordered by the public service commission May 12, have met with favorable results. The commission issued a new order this week which reduces the utility’s revenue by approximately $11,700, but which gives a majority of the reduction benefit to the residential users, which was the request of the utility when it appealed the May order.

August 8, 1974 Nine Contestants To Compete For Miss Medford Mink Princess

Events are moving at a fast pace toward the staging of the Miss Medford Mink Princess pageant here Saturday night, August 17. The contest is being sponsored by the Mink Festival committee this year and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wanke are serving as general chairmen of the event.

August 4, 1999 ASAP donations helped push library book fund drive to $79,000

The Frances L. Simek Memorial Library in Medford recently received a $1,600 donation from the American Syringomyelia Alliance Project, Inc. (ASAP) for its “Fill it Together” fund drive to purchase books.

According to Finance Committee Chairman Bill Grunewald, the donation brings the total amount of donations and pledges for the book fund to more than $79,000. The total amount the Medford community has raised for both the building project and the book campaign has now reached $679,561.

Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) announced it has completed the purchase of Hurd and Superseal Windows and Doors. Sierra Pacific announced its intent to purchase Wisconsin-based Hurd and Superseal on July 7.
