Audition workshop held for Medford Area Community Theatre production of Bright Star
Community theater hopefuls attended a pre-audition acting clinic held May 1 in the theater at Medford Area Senior High School for Medford Area Community Theatre summer production of “Bright Star.”
“Bright Star” is a musical written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. It is set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in 1945–46 with flashbacks to 1923. The musical is inspired by their Grammy-winning collaboration on the 2013 bluegrass album Love Has Come for You[1] and, in turn, the folk story of the Iron Mountain Baby.
Auditions will be held on May 6 and 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. with callbacks scheduled for May 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. all at the Red and White Theatre at Medford Area Senior High School. Those interested in auditioning should sign up for a time slot through the organization’s website www.MedfordCommunityTheatre.com/auditions.
People can download an audition packet which includes a monologue and songs actors should be prepared to perform at the audition. The musical will be directed by Kenzie Flynn.
Performances will take place on July 18, 19, and 20 at 7 p.m. at Medford Area Senior High School.
Inspired by a real event and featuring the Tony-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and 1940s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past – and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.
