Tweaking the design of the planned city park pool project could result in some significant cost savings for Medford taxpayers.

Members of the city’s pool committee met with representatives from Newman Pools Tuesday afternoon to review the pool renovation and expansion project. Newman Pools of Baraboo, was awarded the contract based on their bid of $789,840. According to pool committee chairman Mike Bub, the city was looking for ways to trim costs from the project without reducing the quality of the final product.

“We want to have something people will be proud of,” Bub said, Mayor Mike Wellner agreed, saying the city did not want to make the project cheap, but was looking to tap into Newman Pool’s expertise to see if there were more cost effective options.

Depending on how fast the Taylor County Board acts on it, an all-volunteer corps of EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) may soon staff the Medford Ambulance Service.

Currently Memorial Hospital of Taylor County provides the EMTs during the day, and volunteer EMTs are on duty at night.

Taylor County owns the service and controls the budget, but the program is managed by Memorial Hospital.

But that arrangement, according to hospital president Greg Roraff, is inefficient as far as the hospital is concerned.

The people of the Chelsea community will hold a meeting Monday, June 18th at 8:00 o’clock to consider the possibilities of building a new school in that village. Geo. Dick of the state school superintendents’s office will be there to tell of the experience of other communities.

The Chelsea school will need a number of repairs in the near future and the matter to be discussed with the people of neighboring districts is whether or not the districts should be consolidated and a larger building be erected.

“Of all sad words of tongue or pen, The saddest are these, It might have been” — different.

Such were the looks that could be plainly seen on the faces of the Rib Lake crowd after the ball game Sunday. And a large crowd it was at that. Never was there a doubt in their mind before the game who would win and the way our boys played surprised them. It was one of the most interesting games seen here for many a day. The rather un-called for “roast” of the Rib Lake crowd only helped our boys to play the harder and a glance at the score will show it had a good effect. We feel rather sorry for Rib Lake for we understand they make the excuse of “no practice,” but in justice to all concerned, they must admit that Chelsea played the best ball and as the season is young yet, our boys could not have much practice either.
