Philip and Elsie Buehler celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 11, 2023 marking 70 years together.

Philip and Elsie were married on April 11, 1953 at the Medford United Church with the Rev. Fred Kolbath, attendants were Margaret Nelson and Roy Schwabe (both deceased).

Philip was born January 17, 1931 to the late George and Dorothy Buehler of Medford and Elsie Schwabe was born May 20, 1933 to Roy and Martha Schwabe of Chelsea.

Elsie and Phil met at a wedding dance held at the Pine Tree Dance Hall in 1950 in Chelsea.

Elsie recalls that when they first met, her Pa said Roy Jr. had to go along on all of their dates. He called it a bird dog, and he’d tell Pa and I got into more trouble.

“The first night we met, I wasn’t supposed to sit in the car with anyone, guess what? I did. Oh boy did I get it, but this charming guy I met, we were together every weekend as Phil worked for his Dad on the farm.” Elsie said.

“When I got my ring, Pa found out, so we may as well set our wedding date,” Elsie said. “I told him not until after Easter.”

“To this date, I was never asked, we just assumed we’d get married. Yes, Phil is the love of my life,” Elsie said.

After they got married, the couple farmed with his mom and dad on CTH O. The farm is now in its fourth generation. They bought the farm and later sold it to Chris and Echo in 1984 when they retired from farming and moved into a house they bought on Apple Ave.

With Covid in 2021, Phil is in Colonial Health Care with his health needs. Elsie enjoys living on Apple Avenue.

Phil has a remaining brother Rex, who resides at Bell Tower in Merrill. On May 20 at the Sports Pages a celebration will be held by the family in honor of Phil and Elsie’s 70th anniversary and also of Elsie’s 90th birthday with family and friends.

The couple’s children are Susan and Mike Tanis, Larry and Rose Buehler, Chris and Echo Buehler, Karen and Mike Johnson and Mary Hobl.

They have 13 grand children, Brook, Ty, Dustin, Chelsea, Sam, Tara, Jake, Jamie, Hunter, Slate, Mattie, Nicholas, and Cody and 11 great grandchildren.
