District administrator Mark Heyerdahl did not have much good news for the Gilman School Board from the state budget proposed by Gov. Scott Walker. The budget aims at property tax relief without making up for a $500 cut in per pupil aid made three years ago. Decreasing enrollment issues will also hurt the school along with possible cuts triggered by the federal budget sequester. Heyerdahl said the Gilman Staff is doing a great job holding the line on expenses, but it may not be enough to solve the problem.

With city hall bulging at the seams and the fire department running out of room for its trucks, plans are in the works to remodel the Medford Electric Utility building on Whelen Avenue and move the City’s administration there. J.B. Ramsay, resident manager of the Capital L’b’r Co., at Chelsea informed us yesterday morning that the Co.’s log crop was nearly harvested, and that the total scale for the winter mill foot up about 10,000,000 feet. Their mill has been running steadily since log-hauling commenced, and 1,500,000 feet of lumber has already been sawed. With the aid of their dry kilns they have been enabled to ship 300,000 feet during the same length of time, and the prospects are very favorable for a large and profitable season’s work.
