Local resident grateful for hard work of plow drivers

Vox Pop

Well, it seems for a while now all we hear are negative things and being politically correct.

First, I want to tell how grateful I am for our Taylor County Highway Commission and for ALL of the snowplow drivers. About 10 days to two weeks ago the weather station predicted some snow during the evening, about 1.213 inches. Low and behold they got it right this time!

Anyway, the following morning while sleeping I heard this rumbling noise outside ? Around 5 a.m. I know this because I looked at my alarm clock. About 2 minutes later this rumbling got louder and louder and it dawned on me what the noise was ( light bulb ). Aha it was the snowplow. OK so we got our 1.213 inches of snow. Close to 45 minutes later I heard this same rumbling noise coming from the other direction, OK the plow was coming back on the other side of the road. I thought to myself how grateful I was to have this service on my road so early in the morning. Well, I got up and made breakfast about an hour later and AGAIN heard this rumbling coming down the road. It was the snowplow making a second pass on the road.

And once again it returned on the other side. AND again, I thought how grateful I was that my road got plowed. Well as the day wore on the plow truck made 5 trips both ways — 10 in all. Now just mind this was a 1.213 inch snow fall. Still being grateful that my road was cleaned and if I was able to bulldoze my way out of the garage and up the drive to the cleared road I was set to go. Grateful as all get out that I was able to get out of the yard. OK that evening the weather liars had no mention of snow in the forecast. Well low and behold once again about 5 in the morning here comes the snowplow truck again? What the heck now? Alright they were just probably cleaning up the rest of the mess from the previous days snow. Anyway, now being really appreciative I was very glad that we got that inch of snow the day before because there would have been a lot of fires in the ditches as the most beautiful display of sparks about 8 feet tall were coming off the blade. Again grateful as all get out for this service. A while later I had an errand to run and had to drive to town. When I got out the end of my drive I was surprised to see the road was SO clean it looked like an afternoon day in mid-July!

Again, being very appreciative and grateful for the service. Once again, I hope for the sake of the plow drivers that it does not snow Christmas Eve as they would not be able to spend Christmas Day with family being out all-day Christmas plowing another inch. I just can’t fathom the amount of time it would take if we got about a foot of snow! — Dave Fischer, Gilman
