Rib Lake board OKs accepting credit cards for paying lunch, fees
At the Rib Lake Board of Education meeting on November 10, the Board discussed credit cards.
Previously, the school district accepted only cash or check when paying student lunch accounts. As a service to people paying these, the Board has decided to begin accepting payments made online with a credit card.
There was a debate between two different systems for doing this, both with different costs and usage issues. The option they went with was JMC, which is the current system that the Rib Lake School District uses for storing and tracking student data, such as their lunch money account and their grades. Through using solely JMC, there is a $300 annual fee that the school district will pay, as well as a 3.99% credit card fee and a 1.99% ACH fee for debit cards per transaction. The school district was recommended by JMC to charge the payer $5 per transaction for the convenience of paying with a card.
Going with this option will ultimately cost the school district more money, but will hopefully prevent technical difficulties, and eliminate data being spread out, as the other option would have required integration from another service into JMC.
