With severe weather canceling their second meet of the week, the Cornell-Lake Holcombe track program was in action only once, at Shell Lake, April 15.
“Although the conditions were not good for a track meet, they all competed well, despite the cold,” said coach Laurie Bowe.
On the girls’ side, sophomore Megan Paff claimed second place in shot put, with a throw of 32-07.5 and fifth in discus (84-07), while freshman Ann Pogodzinski was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (20.71) and sixth in high jump (4-02). Freshman Kaitlyn Helland also competed in high jump, taking ninth place (3-10) and 20th in long jump (10-05).
Junior Hannah Kinard came in 12th in the 100-meter dash (15.48), with freshman Lane Porter taking 15th in the 800-meter run (3:26.7).
The Knights also had a relay team in the 4x100-meter, placing third (1:01.58), thanks to Helland, Kinard, Paff and Pogodzinski.
Taking top honors for the boys’ team, was senior Hunter Anders, who placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.44) and high jump (5-04), as well as 12th in the 100 dash (12.56). Sophomore Bryce DeJongh also placed high, taking sixth in the pole vault event (8-06), 12th in the 200 dash (26.71) and 18th in the 100 dash (12.76).
Placing 20th in the long jump, was sophomore Will Willmarth (14-00), who also was 36th in discus (42-05), while junior Jordan Ness was 23rd in the 400-meter dash (1:13.76) and 29th in long jump (9-09.75), with junior Tommy Kane placing 23rd in the discus throw (7005) and 27th in long jump (12-03.5).
“This team continues to improve,” said Bowe.
