Solid defense keeps Cadott in the game up until the end

By Ginna Young

Kicking off the season, the Cadott baseball program was on the road, April 4, at Ellsworth, in a non-conference match.

Ellsworth struck first, getting on the board with a run in the opening inning. Neither team scored in the next two innings, but by the fourth, another run had crossed the plate for Ellsworth.

Cadott rallied to bring in a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Ellsworth answered back in the top of the inning, adding another run, to make it 3-1 in their favor. That would be it for scoring and the home team claimed the win.

“We couldn’t get the bats going, but our pitching and defense was solid, and kept us in the game until the end,” said coach Brandon Geist.

Junior Aiden Rykal went four innings on the mound, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while walking two and striking out 6. Freshman Drew Rykal then took over, going two innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out a batter.

Coming up with a hit each for the Hornets, were senior Warren Bowe, with a double, as well as D. Rykal, junior Carter Matherne and freshman Joel Weeks.
