Getting more athletes into each meet is a good thing
By Ginna Young Luckily for the Cadott track program, their only meet of the week, fell on the day it did, providing good weather at Eleva-Strum, April 8.
“It was great to be outside and to have an actual full meet,” said coach Pat Rothbauer. “Having all of the relays is nice, as it helps us get so many more athletes into the meet.”
Coming home with first place, was the girls team, while the boys took third. Individually, the girls saw many firsts, including those from junior Iszy Sonnentag, who took top honors in the 400-meter dash, in a time of 58.63 and in the 100-meter hurdles (15.88), while freshman Sydney Spaeth was first in long jump (15-07.5) and senior Adrianna Goodman placed first in triple jump (29-10).
Also placing first, was junior Haley Mathison in the shot put (34-04) and discus throw (121-04), which set a new school record, that was set by Alicia Bourget in 2005.
Sonnentag also came in second in the 200-meter dash (26.30) and third in high jump (4-06), while Spaeth was third in the 100-meter dash (13.43) and fourth in the 200 dash (25.52), and Goodman was fourth in the long jump (13-11). Placing second, was sophomore Tessa York in the 300-meter hurdles (1:01.17) and fourth in the pole vault (6-00), while junior Marley Mengel was third in the 300 hurdles (1:02.01) and eighth in the 100 hurdles (22.00).
Freshman Saffron Riley-Starck was seventh in the 300 hurdles (1:04.08), with junior Lilly Spaeth placing seventh in the 400 dash (1:10.95) and eighth in the 200 dash (30.92). Placing seventh in the discus throw, was freshman Sophie Kowalczyk (75-02), while senior Molli York was 10th in discus (68-01) and sophomore Maddie Hrdlicka placed 10th in the 100 hurdles (24.31).
For the boys, sophomore Beau Steinke placed first in the 3,200-meter run (10:21.12) and fourth in the high jump (5-02), with sophomore Kaden Roen taking first in the 400 dash (53.49) and fifth in long jump (17-02.25), while junior Saibyn Will was first in the 1,600-meter run (5:06.27), third in the 300 hurdles (50-56) and eighth in pole vault (5-00).
Sophomore Coy Ramseier came in second in the 100 dash (12.00), with sophomore Brenton Faber in second in high jump (5-04), fourth in the 400 dash (1:00.42) and 3,200 run (12:29.3), and fifth in the triple jump (34-01). Coming in sixth the 300 hurdles, was sophomore Brenner Rodriquez (55.81), who also placed ninth in triple kump (25-10.5), while junior Mitchell Reineke was sixth in discus throw (94-11) and ninth in shot put (34-03).
Freshman Bradley Kreuser placed eighth in triple jump (26-09.75), while freshman Aiydan Sonnentag was eighth in high jump (4-08) and 200 dash (27.33), and senior Tucker Salzgeber was 10th in shot put (33-06.75).
“We don’t have a meet until next Thursday, so it will be nice to be able to get some practice time in, to work on a few things,” said Rothbauer.
