Goal of the season met at State for Nock Busters
By Ginna Young Cornell’s archery program was on target, March 28-29, at State competition, as the team met their season goal.
“One of our goals through the season, became to get 100 bullseyes in a tournament and at State, we got 104 of them,” said coach John Kilde. “I am so proud of our archery team. We had a great year, full of so many improvements.”
Finishing in 19th place out of 27 teams, the archers scored 3,118 and based on the points accumulated at the event, qualified for National competition.
Individually, sophomore Lillian Gorham placed highest for Cornell, with a score of 276, followed by sixth grader Jenna Noland and sophomore Ara Ferguson, with scores of 268 each. Freshman Ann Pogodzinski was right behind, with 267, and freshman Spencer Schwingle and seventh grader Jack Simington right behind that, with 266.
Sophomore Kyleigh Mercer then shot for 264, while sophomore Wesley Smith scored 263, with seventh grader Jacklynn Ducommon scoring 256. Senior Izzy Schwingle followed that with a score of 246, with sophomore Jac Wilson shooting 240 and sixth grader Annalise Feira scoring 238.
Coming next, was junior Addy DeJongh, who scored 235, while seventh graders Addika Anderson and Xavier Wescott shot for 230. Seventh grader Iris Kobliska scored 224 in the event, followed by sixth grader Lilyana Burton shooting 220, while sixth grader Brayden Schwingle scored 217 and seventh grader Harlee Holte had 216.
Shooting a 204, was sixth grader Briella Bitney, with Landon Larson scoring 189, followed by seventh grader Cade Anderson, who shot 184, and seventh grader Ann Pogodzinski, with 178.
“We also had many archers reach their personal best scores at State,” said Kilde. “I could not be prouder. We are already looking forward to the next season.”
