LETTER TO THE EDITOR - Anti-Tesla protests are not harmless
LETTER TO THE EDITOR
People who are opposed to the elimination of government waste, fraud, and abuse have been demonstrating the strength of their convictions by boycotting Tesla car sales, by vandalizing and burning Tesla automobiles, and by harassing Tesla drivers.
These activities have caused the price of the Tesla stock in my retirement portfolio to drop by about 50%. While this damage is not as visibly dramatic as a physical attack on property, it is extremely serious.
Furthermore, there is no insurance that will cover this loss. Damage to Tesla assembly workers, people who supply components to Tesla, Tesla mechanics, and Tesla dealers (all of them Americans) will be more serious.
The Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, has not decreased the size of my Social Security check. DOGE has not decreased my Medicare coverage.
However, Democrats protesting government efficiency have wiped out tens of thousands of dollars of my retirement savings. Tim Walz, the defeated Democrat vice presidential candidate, cheered this damage to my retirement fund at a recent rally. His behavior is shameful.
I don’t own a Tesla car, because they are functionally impractical for me due to limited range, poor recharging infrastructure in my travel area, and poor performance in cold weather. While I strongly opposed the Biden administration’s electrical vehicle mandate, and their draconian restrictions on internal combustion automobiles, I support the right of other citizens to purchase EV’s.

I recognize that electrical vehicles are viable choices for some people, like urban dwellers in warm climates. I support American manufacturing. I support the Tesla company, because it is the most “American” of the automobile manufacturers.
Scenes of a political group harassing other citizens, burning their property, breaking glass, and devaluing their investments conjure images of Nazi Germany.
Please tell your representatives and senators that these attacks on our legacy of peaceful debate must stop. We are better than this.
