Hornets know what to shoot for this season

Although the next day was treated to a March snowstorm, the day before, the Cadott track program was on the road to UW-La Crosse, at the Cashton Invitational, March 22. There, the girls team placed fifth out of 22 schools, while the boys finished in 11th.
“It was a good first meet of the year, as almost everyone was competing in at least one event,” said coach Pat Rothbauer. “It is always great to get a number in the books, so that next time, we have something to shoot for.”
For the girls, two-time State champion junior Iszy Sonnentag picked up right where she left off, taking first in the 400-meter run (58.27) and 55-meter hurdles (9.10), as well as fourth in the high jump (5-00). Junior Haley Mathison also did well, claiming second in shot put (3304) and 10th in the high jump (4-08).
Freshman Sydney Spaeth competed for sixth in the long jump (15-03.5) and sophomore Ali Blum came in ninth in shot put (29-03).
On the boys’ side, sophomore Beau Steinke ended near the top in second, in the 800-meter run (2:07.79), while sophomore Kaden Roen was fourth in the 400 run (55.02) and junior Saibyn Will placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run (5:06.44), with sophomore Brenton Faber 10th in the high jump (5-02).
Also doing well, was the 4x400-meter relay team, of Will, Steinke, Roen and freshman Aiydan Sonnnetag, who placed third (3:52.22).
“We are really looking forward to our meets at UWStout this week,” said Rothbauer, “as we will be trying people in some different events, to see how we round out.”
