Strong first team representation

Two varsity boys basketball point guards in The Record Review coverage area, senior Drew Bruesewitz of Stratford and junior Riley Schultz-Becker of Athens, led their teams in every major statistical category this season and were awarded unanimous first team all-conference.
Bruesewitz paced the Tigers with an average of 16.6 points per game for a total of 449 points this season. He also led Stratford with an average of 4.2 rebounds per game for a total of 113 rebounds and an average of 4.4 assists per game for a total of 118 assists.
He helped Stratford to a 14-2 record to win the Marawood South Conference championship. The Tigers finished this season with an impressive 24-3 overall record. Bruesewitz was a unanimous first team all-Marawood South Conference selection this season after earning second team all-conference last season. He concludes his Tigers basketball playing career with a total 861 career points scored.
Schultz-Becker led Athens in every major statistical category for the second straight season. He averaged 18.3 points per game for a total of 457 points this season. Schultz-Becker also paced the Bluejays with 6.8 rebounds per game for a total of 169 rebounds, an average of 3.5 assists per game for a total of 88 assists and an average of 3.1 steals per game for a total of 77 steals.
He was a unanimous first team all-Marawood North Conference selection this season after receiving first team allconference last season. Schultz-Becker currently has 963 career points which is only 37 points shy of achieving 1,000.
Edgar senior guard Leyton Schuett led the Wildcats this season with an average of 16.8 points per game for a total of 438 points. He concludes his basketball playing career with 1,089 points which is tied with Drew Guden for fifth all-time scoring among Edgar boys basketball players. He was a unanimous first team all-Marawood South Conference selection this season. Schuett was named to the Marawood South all-defensive team during his sophomore and junior seasons.
Marathon junior forward Drew Woelfel led the Red Raiders with 10.6 points per game for 266 total points this season. He was a unanimous first team all-Marawood South Conference selection this season after earning honorable mention all-conference last season. Woelfel has scored 658 career points going into next season.
Other first team all-Marawood South conference players this season are unanimous selections including Auburndale senior Blake Raab and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption junior JT Schlaefer. Raab was awarded Marawood South Conference player of the year. Auburndale head coach Chad Weinfurter and Stratford head coach Curt Schmidt were awarded Marawood South Conference co-coaches of the year.
Todd Henderson of Rib Lake was awarded Marawood North Conference coach of the year and Rib Lake junior Jed Henderson is the conference player of the year. Besides Schultz-Becker of Athens, the other two first team unanimous Marawood North Conference selections this season are Jed Henderson and junior Cooper Michalski of Chequamegon. Other first team Marawood North Conference players this season are senior Lane Abraham of Phillips and junior Aidan Hause of Prentice.
Second team
Marathon junior guard True Thurs earned second team all-Marawood South Conference this season after receiving honorable mention all-conference last season. Thurs led the Red Raiders with an average of seven rebounds per game for a total of 182 rebounds. He also paced the team with an average of 3.8 assists per game for a total of 100 assists and an average of 1.9 steals per game for a total of 49 steals this season.
Stratford junior guard Brooks Vanderhoof also earned second team all-Marawood South Conference this season. He was second for scoring for Tigers with an average of 9.1 points per game for a total of 245 points this season.
Other second team Marawood South Conference players this season are Auburndale senior Thomas Aue and junior Peyton Weinfurter along with junior Quincy Pfender of Newman Catholic. The all-Marawood North Conference second team this season consists of Abbotsford senior Grayson Totzke, Phillips junior JJ Heikkinen, Prentice junior Evan Lord and Rib Lake juniors Talon Scheithauer and Seth Borchardt.
Honorable mention
Athens sophomore Dax Diethelm earned honorable mention all-Marawood North Conference for the second straight season. Bluejays junior Jordan Frahm also earned honorable mention all-conference this season.
Other Marawood North Conference players receiving honorable mention allconference this season are Abbotsford juniors Koren Decker and Irvin Aguilera-Lozoya, Chequamegon junior Marcus Purdy, Phillips seniors Shay Denzine and Collin Kleinschmidt, Prentice junior Elias Harding and sophomore Hagan Isaacson and Rib Lake junior Ethan Cook and freshman Blake Henderson.

This season’s Marawood South all-defensive team consists of Edgar’s Mauer, Marathon’s Thurs, Stratford senior Jett Schoenherr, Auburndale’s Raab, Assumptions’ Schaefer and Newman Catholic junior Lucas Erdman.
Athens junior Eli Paul was awarded to the Marawood North’s all-defensive team this season. Other players on the North’s all-defensive team are Abbotsford junior Christian Fuentes-Rivera, Chequamegon junior Jarrett Heckondorf, Phillips’ Heikkinen, Prentice’s Hause and Rib Lake’s Scheithauer.
