Hornets give it their all to the end against McDonell

By Ginna Young

Cadott’s boys basketball program was on the road as the No. 12 seed, March 4, facing off with No. 5 McDonell, in the first round of Regional action.

The Hornets fell behind early on, down by 23 at halftime. In the second half, Cadott stepped up their defense, limiting McDonell to just 33 points, but because of the large deficit from the first half, they were unable to catch up and the game went to McDonell, 83-51.

That puts an end to Cadott’s season.

“It was a tough game to end our season on,” said coach Shawn Schoelzel.

Leading for Cadott, was senior Blane Mengel, with 11 points, followed by seniors Parker Davis and Jackson Barone, each with 10. Junior Aidan Rykal was right behind, with 9, while senior Cameron Allard had 8. Senior Braden Schneider ended the night with 2 points, with junior Asher Sikora chipping in with 1.

“The guys played hard all the way to the end,” said Schoelzel. “For that, I couldn’t be more proud.”
