Lake Holcombe dominates with a big win over Winter
By Ginna Young
In their only game of the week, Lake Holcombe’s boys basketball program decided to make it a good one, Feb. 21, as they hosted Winter.
“Brian Strzok was able to dictate the speed of the game all night,” said coach Dave Engel. “He did a great job in transition and also recognized when to get into our set offense.
By halftime, the Chieftains were up by 13 and never looked back, ending with a 97-62 victory over Winter.
“They couldn’t find an answer for Connor Kane inside,” said Engel. “Brody Miller and Connor worked inside, to isolate Connor a number of times throughout the night. This really opens up things for our guards to be aggressive.”
Strzok notched a game-high 29 points, with 11 assists, 14 rebounds and 2 steals, while sophomore Emmit Johnson had 27 points, 7 assists, 11 rebounds and 6 steals. Kane followed that with 16 points, with freshman Kyle Heidtke adding 13 and Miller recording 12 points.
Lake Holcombe’s record is now 9-13 overall and 6-9 in the East Lakeland Conference.
