Lodahl advances to State

By Ginna Young

Looking for a chance to continue onward to the next level, the Cadott boys wrestling program was at Ladysmith, for Sectional action.

With 148 varsity wins, senior Kaleb Lodahl (113 pounds) was on the mat, determined to make it to State for the third time in his high school career.

“Kaleb had an impressive sectional performance, avenging a Regional loss to an Auburndale opponent in dominating fashion,” said coach Josh Spaeth.

Lodahl battled back from a loss in the semi-finals, to face-off with Cumberland’s Caleb Hill, winning the third place match, in a 16-2 major decision and qualifying for State.

“Kaleb holds a special place in my heart,” said Spaeth. He’s the grandson of Spaeth’s uncle, Don Manley, who was like a brother to him. Manley never missed any of Spaeth’s high school wrestling matches and played a huge role in his State championship victory years ago.

“Sadly, Don passed away a few years back, but I promised him I would continue coaching Kaleb throughout his career,” said Spaeth. “I know Don would be incredibly proud of his grandson, who has shown such determination and grit. I’m excited for Kaleb as he heads into the tournament, ready for the chance to walk in the dark.”

Also wrestling at Sectionals, were freshman Kellen Blanchette (132) and sophomore Brock Webster (190), who placed fourth, but did not qualify for State. Not placing, were junior Steven Williams (126) and sophomore Owen Fasbender (157).

“All participating Hornets battled yesterday, and provided our fans with a lot of excitement,” said Spaeth. “The future for our young team looks very bright.”
