Gilman wins two 3-D team titles at Owen-Withee archery shoot
The Gilman Pirate Archery Club won the team titles in the high school and middle school divisions Saturday, while Medford had the third-ranked high school team in the 3-D portion of the Owen-Withee Blackhawk tournament.
The high school standings showed Gilman on top of the seven-team field with 1,644 points, eight more than Stratford. Medford wasn’t far off with 1,622, 15 better than Faith Christian Academy. In the middle school rankings, Gilman had 1,544 points to edge out Thorp by nine and Auburndale by 22.
Medford’s Ezra Hillebrand was the top local scorer, earning a score of 285 out of a possible 300. That ranked second of out 40 high school boys. With 20 10-point shots, he was on the short end of the tiebreaker with Auburndale’s Austin Hilgart, who shot a 285 with 22 10-point shots.
Gilman’s Reece Weir was the secondranked high school girl out of 47 entrants, shooting a 282. She was one point behind champion Colette Pickar of Faith Christian Academy. Medford seventh grader Dylan Emmerich also shot a 282. That gave him the middle school boys championship, one point ahead of Gilman’s Colton Lang.
Gilman’s Terran Schleis was fourth among high school boys at 279, Mylie Stephens was fifth among high school girls at 275, Makii Austin Mallo was 10th in the high school boys division at 275, Wyatt Stephens was fifth among middle school boys at 273 and Aiden Henke also shot a 273 and placed sixth. Stephens had 12 10--point shots to Henke’s 11. Eli Schleis was eighth in the division at 271. Kaysen Westaby was second out of 33 elementary boys with a score of 247 and Addison Lang was sixth out of 17 elementary girls at 213.
Medford’s Kodi Rappe was eighth in the high school girls division with a 272, Wyllow Freudenthal won the girls elementary division with her 267 and Cooper Erl was sixth among elementary boys with a 232.
Gilman placed second and Medford fourth in the high school division of Owen-Withee’s bullseye tournament. The Pirates compiled a total of 3,334 points to fall just four points behind Cadott. Medford’s 3,207 points were seven better than Marshfield and 108 behind Stratford.
Gilman’s Wyatt Stephens was the top local scorer. He shot a 287 to place second out of 93 middle school boys, while Colton Lang was seventh at 278. Terran Schleis shot a 285 to place second out of 88 high school boys. Hillebrand also shot a 285 and was credited with fourth place, while Medford’s Brock Anderson got seventh with a 284. Gilman’s Logan Wallace was ninth at 282.
Weir’s 282 placed ninth out of 100 high school girls. Freudenthal won the elementary girls division with a score of 270. Westaby was sixth for boys at 249.
At the Cadott tournament Feb. 15, Gilman was third out of 10 teams with a score of 3,288. Stratford (3,345) and Cadott (3,336) were the top two. The Pirates’ Wyatt Stephens (284) and Colton Lang (278) were fourth and sixth out of 89 middle school boys. Addison Lang won the elementary girls division at 249.
Medford had two high school girls entrants, Naomi Fleegel (262) and Cora Semrau (253).
At Flambeau on Feb. 8, Gilman was second out of three high school teams. Scores were Cadott (3,311), Gilman (3,264) and Lake Holcombe (2,740). Senior Alison Krizan led the Pirates with a 284, which ranked fourth out of 47 high school girls. Weir was fifth at 282 and Rayana Romig was 10th at 277. Colton Lang was second out of 40 middle school boys at 280, while Wyatt Stephens was fourth at 272. Wallace was 10th out of 40 high school boys with his 274. Addison Lang shot a 237 to take second among nine elementary girls, a division won by Freudenthal and her score of 249.
Hillebrand’s 285 put him fourth in the high school boys division. Medford’s Mattie Gebert was fifth among high school girls with her 282 and Semrau shot a 247.
Also that day, Hillebrand was the high school boys champion at Cornell with a 283. Hank Paul’s 270 gave him fourth place. Semrau (253) was 20th and Kaedence Ecklund was 27th (227). Henke was Gilman’s lone participant and placed second out of 31 middle school boys with a score of 265.
Tournaments at Augusta and Stevens Point are on this weekend’s National Archery in the Schools Program schedule. The Medford Archery Club hosts its 12th annual bullseye and sixth annual 3-D shoots next weekend, March 7-8.
