The fans of Lake Holcombe and Cornell were in for a battle on the court, Feb. 11, as the girls’ basketball programs met in Lake Holcombe.
Lake Holcombe took a close lead into halftime and because of solid play, managed to stretch out the lead to take the win, 49-40 over the Chiefs.
“We had a focus to contain a couple of their high scorers on the team and that worked well,” said Lake Holcombe coach Matthew Stewart. “The kids played hard and earned a win that we needed.”
For Cornell, sophomore Haylee Ellis had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals, while senior Bralee Schroeder followed with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals, and senior Alyssa Bowe ended with 6 points and 4 steals.
“We didn’t come out playing our best against Holcombe and were inconsistent,” said Cornell coach Stacy Schroeder.
