SCG’s Becker headed to state wrestling

Five Spencer-Columbus Catholic-Granton (SCG) wrestlers competed at sectionals this past weekend, with most of them having their season come to an end. However, SCG’s Anna Becker (29-8) took first in her weight class to advance to state. Complete results are as follows.

GIRLS The WIAA Girls Sectional C took place at Eau Claire North on Friday. The top two finishers in each girls weight class qualify for state.

145 Azariah Hoffman (35-6) placed third and scored 15 team points.

Championship Bracket - Hoffman won by fall over Linnet Barrios (Arcadia) 2-26 (fall 0:17).

Championship Bracket - Hoffman won by fall over Gracey O’Brien (New Lisbon) 19-11 (fall 1:19).

First-Place Match - Layla Risler (Mondovi/Eleva-Strum) 52-1 won by fall over Hoffman (fall 3:12).

Second-Place Match - Katelyn Nosbisch (Black River Falls) 37-10 won in sudden victory - 1 over Hoffman (SV-1 11-8).

235 Becker (29-8) placed first and scored 24 team points.

Championship Bracket - Becker received a bye.

Championship Bracket - Becker won by fall over Savannah Whiting (Prescott) 16-8 (fall 0:44).

First-Place Match - Becker won by fall over Rainie Yang (Eau Claire North) 30-11 (fall 3:01).

Team score SCG took 10th out of 30 teams with 39 points in all. Holmen won the tournament with 99 points.

BOYS The WIAA Division 2 Sectional A took place at Amery on Saturday. The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to state.

165 Quarterfinals - Matheo Ngbemeneh (Somerset) defeated Teddy Meyer (SCG) (fall 4:51).

190 Quarterfinals - Brock Swenson (Saint Croix Central) defeated Jakob Soback (SCG) (fall 0:27).

Consolation Semifinals- Logan Schwinger (Rhinelander) defeated Soback (fall 5:10).

215 Quarterfinals - Blaine Severson

(Mondovi/Eleva-Strum) defeated Wyatt Karl (SCG) (fall 3:01).

Team score SCG tied for 20th place among 23 teams, not scoring any points. Osceola won the tournament with 132 points.
