Good turnout leads to more growth for Cornell archers

By Ginna Young

A snowstorm couldn’t keep schools from competing at an archery meet in Cornell, Feb. 8, with many of the home archers improving their best scores.

“Despite the snow, we had a good turnout,” said coach John Kilde. “I am so thankful for all the parents that invested time into making the tournament happen. It could not have happened without them. I learned alot from it and am looking forward to using what I learned for future events.”

Junior Addy DeJongh claimed top honors for her team, finishing in first place, with a score of 283. Sophomore Kyleigh Mercer also took first place in her grade, scoring 270, while sophomore Jac Wilson ended in third, with a score of 269. Sophomore Lillian Gorham followed that with a score of 258, with seventh grader Jack Simington and freshman Ann Pogodzinski right behind, with 257.

Sophomore Ara Ferguson came next, shooting 256, with freshman Spencer Schwingle scoring 254; seventh grader Harlee Holte had 243; and sophomore Wesley Smith ended with a score of 241.

“I am so proud of all our archers,” said Kilde.
