Cadott comes home with three league titles for girls

By Ginna Young

For the first time, the Cloverbelt Conference included a girls bracket at the tournament in Spencer, Feb. 7, which meant that Cadott athletes could travel and warm-up together. The Hornets girls were without junior Iszy Sonnentag (113 pounds), as she chose to enter the boys competition and went on to take her second league championship.

“She will likely go down as the only female to ever win the boys Cloverbelt championship, since, next year, girls will likely not compete against boys, with the new rules,” said coach Greg Sonnentag.

In the girls’ bracket, the Hornets saw three champions, as sophomore Tessa York (120) won over Abbotsford-Colby’s Romina Perez, by fall, in 1:40; senior Abigail Moss (138) won over Nevaeh, of Stanley-Boyd, in 1:33, by fall; and freshman Kaylee Stai (152) received byes.

Senior Molli York (145) took runner-up, while sophomore Kaylee Reineke (114), sophomore Arianna Walker (126) and sophomore Taliann Donahue (132) all came in third.
