By Ginna Young Cornell is deep in the schedule of facing conference teams, with their boys basketball program and this past week proved challenging.
Feb. 4 vs. Winter conference (L 88-81) DeJongh scored 19 points in the affair, followed by Stipek, with 12, while Woodford had 8 and Anders knocked in 5 points. Contributing to the mix, was junior Easton Maier, with 2 points. Feb. 10 vs. Bruce nonconference (L 75-61) It was then Bruce’s turn to pay a visit, but Cornell again fell behind in the first half and were unable to dig out of the hole, watching the match go to the Raiders, 75-61.
Stipek came up big for the Chiefs, with 22 points, while Anders had 14. De-Jongh came next, with 9 points, followed by Abbott and Maier, with 6 each. Woodford added 4 points on the night, and Smith added 3, with freshman Spencer Schwingle sinking a free throw.
Cornell junior Carson Stipek got mobbed by the Prairie Farm defense, but nonetheless was able to knock the ball to a teammate, Feb. 7, on his home court.

Feb. 7 vs. Prairie Farm conference (L 79-44) A few nights later, Prairie Farm came to call, but held Cornell to just 12 points the first half and, while offense was better in the second half for the Chiefs, they couldn’t overcome a tall Panthers squad. In the end, the visitors took the win, 79-44.
The Chiefs were off to Winter, to begin the week and after a hard-fought game, had to concede the game to the home team, 88-81.
