The Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal (NGL) wrestling team traveled to nearby Spencer for the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament on Friday. The boys took second place of nine teams with 162 points, coming in behind Cadott, which won with 246 points.
Individually, Brynn Heck, Jakob Luchterhand, and Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt all won their weight divisions, Heck becoming the first girls conference champion for NGL girls wrestling. Luchterhand also won conference last year and Sebesta-Opelt won the past two years.
Wrestlers will compete in Richland Center this Saturday, Feb. 15. NGL’s complete conference results are listed below, by weight class.
GIRLS 114 Heck (20-8) placed first.
Round 1 - Heck won by fall over Allison Cronk (McDonnell/Elk Mound) 16-23 (fall 2:39).
Round 2 - Heck won by fall over Kaylee Reineki (Cadott) 14-12 (fall 4:33).
Round 3 - Heck won by fall over Veronika Leavens (Bloomer/Colfax) 21-6 (fall 2:25).
BOYS 106 Boden Opelt (21-15) placed third and scored 11 team points.
Quarterfinal - Opelt received a bye. Semifinal - Ryker Moskiewicz (Cadott) 25-11 won by fall over Opelt (fall 5:17).
Consolation Semifinal - Opelt received a bye. Third-Place Match - Opelt won by fall over Grant Wirtz (Spencer/Columbus/Granton) 4-17 (fall 0:53).
113 Mason Anding (19-14) placed second and scored 16 team points.
Quarterfinal - Anding received a bye. Semifinal - Anding won by fall over Blake Shilts (Regis/Altoona) 15-24 (fall 0:39).
First-Place Match - Iszy Sonnentag (Cadott) 10-2 won by fall over Anding (fall 3:53).
120 Rydge Tibbett (24-12) placed third and scored 18 team points.
Quarterfinal - Tibbett won by fall over Blake Peterson (Stanley-Boyd) 3-11 (fall 1:32).
Semifinal - Drew Ryder (Bloomer/Colfax) 37-7 won by decision over Tibbett (decision 8-3).
Consolation Semifinal - Tibbett won by fall over Landon Miller (Regis/Altoona) 15-25 (fall 1:01).
Third-Place Match - Tibbett won by fall over Gavin Andrew (Spencer/Columbus/Granton) 18-21 (fall 1:56).
132 Talan Suda (5-12) placed seventh and scored two team points.
Quarterfinal - Kellen Blanchette (Cadott) 26-10 won by fall over Suda (fall 0:51).
Consolation Round 1 - Julian Ruiz (Stanley-Boyd) 10-21 won by decision over Suda (decision 5-3).
Seventh-Place Match - Suda received a bye.
138 Adam Kautzer (6-4) placed second and scored 19.5 team points.
Quarterfinal - Kautzer won by fall over Ryan Bowe (Stanley-Boyd) 9-14 (fall 1:14).
Semifinal - Kautzer won by technical fall over Drew Lang (Spencer/Columbus/Granton) 12-17 (TF-1.5 4:00 (15-0)).

285 Jackson Meyer (35-10) placed second and scored 20 team points.
Quarterfinal - Meyer won by fall over Ryan Frelk (Bloomer/Colfax) 7-21 (fall 0:53).
Semifinal - Meyer won by fall over Gavin Lofgren (Regis/Altoona) 30-12 (fall 2:37).
First-Place Match - Willy Graham (Stanley-Boyd) 37-5 won by fall over Meyer (fall 0:27).
Above Evan Kautzer tries to pin down Regis/ Altoona’s Mason Tomesh. He won by major decision in that quarterfinal round and went on to place third at the conference tournament. At right, Brynn Heck gets closer and closer to getting a pin on McDonnell/Elk Mound’s Allison Cronk. She finished the night in first place, being the first female conference champion from NGL in girls wrestling. Below, Rydge Tibbett gets a lock on his opponent Blake Peterson in the quarterfinal round. He placed third at conference, winning the third place match against SCG’s Gavin Andrew to earn the placing.
