Panthers sneak past the Chieftains to take the win

By Ginna Young

Lake Holcombe’s girls basketball program was in action, Jan. 24, as they traveled for a conference game at Prairie Farm. Going in, they knew it would be a battle and it was just that.

“It was a game of swings, that went back and forth multiple times throughout the game,” said coach Matthew Stewart.

The teams were evenly matched in the first half, but coming out of the break, the Chieftains went on a run, expanding their lead to eight at one point. Prairie Farm wasn’t going down without a fight and came back, to take the lead with just a minute and a half left in the game.

“During this time, we stole the ball, I believe, three times and had opportunities to regain the lead, but were unable to do so,” said Stewart.

Prairie Farm claimed victory as time ran out, 35-30.

Sophomore Chloe Irwin came up with 11 points for the Chieftains, with freshman Leyla Beaudin right behind, with 10. Sophomore Payton Birkenholz followed that up with 7 points, while junior Alexia Hoffner added 2.
