Wolfpack seeing a lot of action as season goes on

The Cornell-Lake Holcombe-Gilman wrestlers faced off with some tough competition, first, in a home dual, then on the road over the weekend.
Jan. 23 Home Dual (L 2-0) The Wolfpack grapplers were at home in Gilman, taking on Clear Lake in dual action, but were unable to bring in a win, dropping the bout, 53-12.
Sophomore Lucas Halida (132 pounds) went up against Brennon Colbeth, but was taken down by technical fall, 17-1. Senior Preston Fredrickson (150) was also in action, but watched his match go to Cayden Paulson, by fall.
Junior Sawyer Winger (157) was matched with Magnum Moggo, but dropped the bout by fall. Coming up with forfeit wins, were sophomore Taydyn Angell (215) and senior Lee Zagorski (285).
For the girls, freshman Aspen Person (120) saw her match go to Cheyanne Marette, by fall.
The Wolfpack then went up against Turtle Lake-Clayton, but again fell, this time, 48-6.
Halida was on the mat once more, but was defeated by Luke Popenhagen, in a 7-3 decision, while Fredrickson dropped his match with Owen Anderson, in a 10-9 decision. Winger also wrestled again, going against Brandon Wright, who won by fall, in one minute.
Zagorski also competed a second time in the night, dropping his match with Cain Casarez, by fall, in 5:42.
Jan. 25 St. Croix Falls
The Wolfpack was then on the road to St. Croix Falls, where Angell came home with second place, after winning in the early rounds, before losing in the finals. Fredrickson won a match, but then dropped the last two, while Halida was defeated in both his matches.
Winger and Zagorski also dropped their matches. On the girls’ side, Person lost in double overtime, then came up with a win, before dropping the last bout, 8-3, while Kaitlyn Madlon also competed.
