Chiefs drop trio of games on the road

The Cornell boys basketball program traveled in all three of their match-ups over the week, but couldn’t bring home a victory.
Jan. 14 vs. Birchwood conference (L 88-48)
First up on the schedule, was Birchwood, who dominated in the first half, taking a 27-point lead into the break. The Chiefs stepped up their play in the second half, but were unable to catch up and watched the game go to Birchwood, 88-48.
Sophomore Bryce DeJongh led for Cornell, with 17 points, with junior Carson Stipek right behind, with 14. Junior Grady Abbott followed that with 6 points, while senior Hunter Anders had 5 and sophomore Wesley Smith ended with 4. Sophomore Eddie Woodford rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
Jan. 16 vs. Clear Lake conference (L 72-32)
A couple days later, the Chiefs were in action at Clear Lake, but again, fell behind in the first half. Struggling to overcome a 32-point deficit at the break, Cornell held the Clear Lake offense to just 24 points in the second half, but ultimately, had to concede defeat, 72-32.
Jan. 17 vs. Clayton conference (L 59-37)
The next night, Cornell headed to Clayton, where they made a much better showing in the first half, only down by nine. However, Clayton pulled away from the Chiefs in the second part of the match, claiming a 59-37 victory.
That puts the Chiefs at 1-13 on the season, while they sit at 1-6 in the East Lakeland Conference.
