SCG wrestlers compete at Stanley, St. Croix Falls
The Spencer-Columbus Catholic-Granton (SCG) wrestling team wrestled in Stanley last Thursday and went 2-0. SCG beat McDonell 60-11 and Stanley-Boyd 45-36.
Going 2-0 were the following wrestlers, listed with their weight classes: Kayden Patterson 113, Gavin Andrew 120, Mason Wolf 132, Drew Lang 138, Teddy Meyer 165, Wyatt Karl 190, and Jakob Soback 215.
The SCG wrestlers then traveled to St. Croix Falls for the St. Croix Falls Wrestling Classic, with the girls competing on Friday afternoon and the boys on Saturday. Results were as follows, listed by weight class: 120: In championship round one, Miles Alters of Hudson defeated Andrew (fall 3:26). In consolation round two, Andrew defeated Brady Kobernick (Turtle Lake/Clayton) by 7-5 decision.
165: In the third-place match, Carter Bighley (Somerset) defeated Meyer by 9-8 decision.
175: In championship round one, Ross Waldon (Hudson) defeated Sam Helgestad of SCG by 13-8 decision.
JV 106: In round three, Dominic Taylor (North Branch) defeated Grant Wirtz (SCG) by technical fall (19-4, 1:32). In round four, Tucker Kovarik (North Branch) defeated Wirtz by technical fall (17-2, 3:45).
113: In round three, Joseph Graupman (North Branch) defeated Kayden Patterson (SCG) by fall (0:39).
126B: In round three, Mason Henry (North Branch) defeated Fletcher Post (SCG) by fall (2:38).
215: In round one, Xarion Larson (Prescott) defeated Kathan Tesmer (SCG) by fall (5:02).
Girls 235: In championship round one, Anna Becker (SCG) received a bye. In the quarterfinals, Becker defeated Kori Geiger (Abbotsford/Colby) by fall (0:23). In the semifinals, she defeated Tessa Becker (Saint Croix Falls) by fall (0:19). In the first-place match, she lost to Madison Burns of Ashland by fall (1:42).
145: In championship round one, Azariah Hoffmann (SCG) defeated Isabella Harder (Cameron) by fall (0:53). In the quarterfinals, Kylie Miller (Saint Croix Falls) defeated Hoffmann by medical forfeit. In the second consolation round, Violet Albrecht (Pine City) defeated Hoffmann by medical forfeit.
