Cornell can’t overcome at home with Lake Holcombe

In what is always a rivalry game on the court and friendly competition off it, the Cornell Chiefs played host to the Lake Holcombe Chieftains, Jan. 9, in an East Lakeland Conference bout. The Chieftains came in hot, taking a 19-point lead into halftime and while the Chiefs were better on scoring in the second half, they watched Lake Holcombe take the win, 69-40.
“Tonight’s game was another great team game,” said Lake Holcombe coach Dave Engel. “Our guards really executed well against their zone.”
Leading for Cornell, was Stipek, with 11 points, while DeJongh ended with 8, as did Anders. Junior Grady Abbott followed that with 5 points, and sophomores Eddie Woodford and Wesley Smith each chipped in with 4.
Strzok led for Lake Holcombe, with 21 points, with Johnson right behind, with 20, while Kane had 12. Miller notched 6 points on the night, followed by Heidtke. Sophomore Evin Tainter shot a three-pointer and senior Trent Lee added 2 points.
“This a good way to cap a long week for us,” said Engel.
