Chiefs collect a big home victory over the Chieftains

By Ginna Young

Cornell’s girls basketball program acted as host to Lake Holcombe, in a conference match, Jan. 9, with the Chiefs going good on their home court.

“We started out strong on the night, taking the lead early,” said coach Stacy Schroeder. “We had to work to keep it.”

The Cheiftains came out strong, defensively, in the second half, but Cornell was determined and claimed the win, 38-29.

“It was a good win for the girls,” said Schroeder.

“With low numbers, they have to work really hard the entire game, basically, without many breaks for most of them.”

Sophomore Haylee Ellis came up with 12 points for the Chiefs, along with 10 rebounds and 5 blocks, while senior Bralee Schroeder also had 12 points, ending with 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 assists. Senior Alyssa Bowe followed that up with 7 points and 3 steals, with sophomore Annabelle King adding 5 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

Sophomore Anelise Larson rounded out the scoring with 2 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

“It was a confidence boost they needed and moving forward, we need to build on that,” said S. Schroeder.
