Cadott splits week’s games with non-conference foes

Taking on two non-conference opponents, the Cadott girls basketball program split the matches to end the week.
Jan. 7 vs. Mondovi non-conference (L 63-47)
First up, the Hornets were on the road to Mondovi, with the game tied up at 28-28, at the end of the first half, but in the second part of the game, Mondovi pulled away, with a 63-47 victory.
Junior Taylor Hager led for her team, with 17 points, with senior Tarynn Donahue coming next, with 12, while junior Kennedy Nerdrum ended with 6. Senior McKenna Steinke followed that with 5 points, with freshman Sophie Kowalcyzk adding 4 and junior Lilly Spaeth hitting a three-pointer.
Jan. 9 vs. Athens non-conference (W 64-36)
Two days later, the Hornets hosted Athens, getting the jump on the visitors right away and taking a 21-point lead into halftime. Athens faired better in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to stop Cadott and the Hornets put the game away, 64-36.
Donahue collected 21 points on the night, with Hager following with 13, while senior Kasey Moldrem and Kowalczyk each added 8. Nerdrum came next, contributing 6 points, with senior Brooklyn Hrdlicka chipping in with 3, while sophomore Ava Eiler had 2 and sophomore Halie Martinson connected on a free throw.
