Tiger boys win the holiday

Stratford’s varsity boys basketball team downed Owen-Withee, 54-38, on Saturday to win its annual home holiday tournament. Drew Bruesewitz led the Tigers with 15 points and Brooks Vanderhoof added 13 points in the win against the Blackhawks.
The Tigers improve their record to 8-1 this season while the Blackhawks fall to 5-2. Stratford’s only loss this season was to Marathon by one point at home.
Stratford began their holiday tournament on Friday with a convincing 72-34 victory against Manawa. Bruesewitz paced the Tigers with 25 points and Riley Spindler added 14. Manawa beat Fall River, 63-52, in the Stratford Holiday Tournament’s consolation game on Saturday.
Tiger girls 1-1 in tournament
Stratford’s varsity girls basketball squad split its pair of games in the Bangor Holiday Tournament. Stratford beat Cochrane-Fountain City, 46-36, on Friday before losing its first game this season, 64-40, to Bangor on Saturday.
Daisy Yoder and MyKayla Stueber led Stratford with 12 points apiece in the loss to Bangor. The Tigers now have a 9-1 record this season while the Cardinals improve to 9-2.
Red Raiders beat Dons
Marathon’s varsity girls basketball team defeated Marshfield Columbus, 52-48, on Friday at home. The Red Raiders improve their record to 7-1 this season while the Dons fall to 5-5.
The Red Raider varsity boys basketball squad downed Marshfield Columbus, 6554, on Friday at home in a battle of two teams trying to find their new identify this season after playing in the state tournament last year.
Marathon lost three starting players, including its star center Grant Warren, from last year’s team that lost in the WIAA Division 4 state tournament semifinal. Columbus lost all five of its starting players from last year’s WIAA Division 5 state championship squad.
Ean Shula led Marathon with 16 points in the victory against Columbus. True Thurs added 13 points and Garrett Bracewell had 10 against the Dons. Drew Woelfel paced the Red Raiders with 10 rebounds.
Marathon improves its record to 5-3 this season while Columbus falls to 4-4.
