Starting strong will only help as the year goes on

Cornell saw a pair of basketball games out-of-conference for their boys program, starting the season strong.
Dec. 3 vs. Glenwood City non-conference (L 89-44)
First up on the schedule, was an away match at Glenwood City and while the Chiefs were outscored, and conceded the game to their opponents, 89-44, the strong effort put in gives the team a lot of confidence for the rest of the year.
“The score doesn’t reflect how the game went for us,” said coach Jon Hetke. “Glenwood has an exceptional team and shot the ball very well.”
Sophomore Bryce DeJongh took top honors for Cornell, ending with 14 points, with seniors Hunter Anders and Preston Fredrickson each scoring 10. Sophomore Wesley Smith added 6 points, and juniors Grady Abbott and Zech Schmidt chipped in with 2 each.
“This is how we were looking to start the year off strong,” said Hetke. “End results wasn’t a win on the score board, but a good start to the year.”
Dec. 9 vs. Greenwood non-conference (L 81-53)
The Chiefs then headed to Greenwood, after the weekend off, but were unable to topple their foe, taking an 81-53 loss.
