Improvement is coming with each game played

By Ginna Young It was a rough start for the Cornell girls basketball program, but by the end of the week, the team was pulling together and seeing improvement. Dec. 3 vs. Glenwood City non-conference (L 63-24) In the first of two road games, the Chiefs were in action at Glenwood City, but scoring wasn’t there for the small team. Cornell was down by 28 points by halftime and while they fared better in the second half, the game still went to their opponents, 63-24. “Being our first game, we weren’t sure what to expect said coach Stacy Schroeder. Sophomore Haylee Ellis led for the Chiefs, with 9 points, while senior Bralee Schroeder ended with 6, with senior Alyssa Bowe right behind, with 5, and freshman Kaitlyn Helland following that with 4 points. “Girls played hard the whole game, but weren’t able to get anything going offensively and Glenwood City had an outside shooting game that we couldn’t stop defensively,” said S. Schroeder. Dec. 9 vs. Greenwood non-conference (L 64-25) The Chiefs then took on Greenwood in an away game, but scoring was still lacking and the home team claimed the win, 64-25. B. Schroeder added 12 points on the night and collected 3 rebounds, while Ellis came away with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Bowe followed that up with 4 points, with freshman Eleasha Kuehl adding 4 rebounds and a steal. “In these first few games, our biggest goal is to improve and we are seeing that, even though the scores have not reflected that just yet,” said S. Schroeder, “but I believe we will start seeing that soon.”
