The 33.3% shooting percentage wasn’t exactly what the Rib Lake girls basketball team wanted in Thursday night’s Marawood Conference opener with Chequamegon.

But, with a rarely-seen 93 shots attempted from the field, making onethird of them was more than enough to outscore the visiting Screaming Eagles 7223 and even the Redmen’s early season overall record at 1-1.

Rib Lake forced Chequamegon into 52 turnovers, with 40 of those being steals, and grabbed 63 rebounds, including 44 on the offensive end, to get all of those shots at the basket.

The struggles to put those shots in mostly came in the first half when the Redmen couldn’t seem to create much separation despite controlling the play on the court. That changed in the last five minutes of the half when Rib Lake went on a 19-0 run to take a 38-8 halftime lead. The run actually grew to 28 straight points early in the second half.

Rib Lake, who averaged about 46 points per game last year, is averaging 69 through two games this year.

All but one player on the roster got into the scoring column Friday. Rib Lake was led by senior Addison Gumz, who scored 16 points on seven-of-17 shooting from the field. Tessa Weik scored 14 points and missed a double-double by one rebound. Madison Grzanna came off the bench and scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds while making six of 12 shots.

Tahlia Scheithauer, who had six of Rib Lake’s steals, got the game-breaking run started with a steal that led to a Gumz basket. Dallmann’s steal led to a Gumz free throw and Dallmann drew a foul on an offensive rebound and made one free throw. Weik got the rebound on the miss and scored for a 25-8 lead.

Grzanna then went to work scoring Rib
