Tridents set best times at Sectionals competition
By Ginna Young Sectional action saw the Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer swim team at Menomonie, Nov. 9, where the Tridents looked to advance on in the post-season. The Tridents faced off with 13 others team and, at the end, claimed 11th place out of the 14 schools present.
“After a long, hard season of training, focusing on building strength, endurance and technique, individually, each member of the team earned best times,” said coach Whitney Hanson.
In the 200-yard medley relay of juniors Megan DeWitt and Liv Repka, senior Sarah Allard and sophomore Nayeli Schilling, the team placed second in their heat, for ninth overall. For the 200-yard individual freestyle, Allard was third overall, in a time of 2:07.95. Schilling placed seventh in that event and DeWitt placed 26th.
Moving to the 50-yard freestyle, senior Alyxandria Lunemann ended in 28th, while sophomore Sidney Heath was 30th and sophomore Brooklyn Adisek placed 34th. Repka also placed 38th, with junior Lyra Moffitt right behind in 39th. In the 100-yard butterfly, junior Abby Fye came in 19th, for a time of 1:15.54.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Lunemann placed 22nd and Fye was 24th, while 500-yard freestyle was an exciting race, with Allard earning fifth and Heath placing 17th. For the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team (Allard, Fye, Lunemann, Schilling) took first in their heat, for ninth overall and a best time this season.
Competing in the 100-yard backstroke, Adisek placed 26th and Moffitt was 28th, while DeWitt placed 31st. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Repka placed 11th, in a time of 1:20.68. The final event of the meet was the 400-yard freestyle relay of Fye, DeWitt, Heath and Lunemann, who took 11th place.
Despite a slew of new personal records, none of the Trident swimmers moved on, putting an end to their year in the pool.
This was a great meet for the Tridents, the coaches are very proud of the how the team performed this season, and how hard they worked on improving their technique and endurance,” said Hanson.
