Local runners race to the end of the season

Runners from Loyal-Greenwood, Neillsville-Granton and Spencer reached the end of their fall running journey at the WIAADivision 3 Sectional in Westfield last Saturday, as none of them placed high enough to advance to state.

Neillsville-Granton (NG) Senior Will Drinka was the top male finisher for NG, earning 15th place out of 102 runners with a time of 18:49.4. His teammate Hunter Schultz, a junior, took 31st place with a time of 19:38.2. Fellow junior Gabe Sheikh placed 81st with a time of 22:55.4. Senior Jeremmiah Dorshorst finished in 23:45 to take 86th place. Sebastian Whiting-O’Keefe, a junior, took 90th at 24:27.9. Rounding out the boys team was senior Koltin Luchterhand with his time of 24:50.2, good for 92nd place.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Haylee Schultz led the way for NG, placing 74th out 95 runners with a time of 27:26.6. Fellow sophomore Ella Dittner was nigh at her heels, taking 77th place with a time of 28:02.7. Brynn Heck, a freshman, took 81st place with a time of 28:31.6. Noelle Teschner, a senior, took 67th place with a time of 26:40.9. Andrya Wilke, a junior, is also on the team but did not register a time.

Andrew Lavengood was the first to finish for the LG boys. He placed 26th out of 102 runners with a time of 19:11.3, putting a cap on his freshman season and first year racing competitively. After Lavengood was junior Lucas Nielsen, who took 54th place with a time of 20:56.3. Freshman Lincoln Smith came in 85th place with a time of 23:34.8. Fellow freshman Mason Kohnert took 95th with his time of 25:15.4. Junior Carson Ludwig was also listed with the boys team but had no time recorded.

With only one person graduating from the LG cross country squad this spring, the team will have plenty of room for growth in future seasons.

Spencer Only four runners from Spencer competed at sectionals. For the girls, Tahneya Anderson took 60th and Savannah Wilke took 82nd. Anderson, a sophomore, had a time of 25:23.5 while Wilke, a freshman, had a time of 29:09.2.
