Hornets chopped down by Lumberjacks to end season
By Ginna Young
The Cadott football program was pumped for one last home game, Oct. 18, as Lakeland Conference opponent Ladysmith came to call. However, the night didn’t go as the Hornets planned.
Ladysmith jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and while Cadott’s defense held them to that score, by the second quarter, the Lumberjacks opened it up, adding another 21 points before the half.
The second part of the game was much the same, with Ladysmith putting 15 points on the board in the third quarter, as well as a touchdown in the fourth, all while holding Cadott scoreless, for a 49-0 victory.
For offense, on receiving, senior Blane Mengel ended with 3 receptions, for 37 yards, while junior Aiden Rykal also had 3 receptions, with 21 yards. In rushing, senior Warren Bowe notched 41 yards on 8 rushes, with Rykal coming up with 8 rushes and 31 yards.
Freshman Kellen Blanchette followed that up with 3 rushes for 12 yards and freshman Drew Rykal rushed twice, with 6 yards.
That puts an end to the Hornets’ season, with a 1-8 record overall, while remaining winless in the league. Now that Cadott has a season under their belt in a new conference, they can build on the experience they gained over the year.
