2 from LG, 1 from NG earn all-conference recognition in cross country
Local runners traveled to Levis Trow Mound Recreational Area near Neillsville to take part in the Cloverbelt Conference Meet last Saturday. The mild day with temps in the low to mid-60s and trees in their autumn array provided the perfect backdrop to the race. The top 21 finishers in each race received all-conference recognition, with the top seven runners being named to the CloverbeltAll-Conference First Team, eighth through 14th place being named to the Cloverbelt All-Conference Second Team, and 15th through 21st place receiving honorable mention.
The Loyal-Greenwood (LG) program saw seven runners compete, with two of them attaining all-conference status.
LG’s Summer Smith placed 12th out of 67 runners in the girls’ race, with a time of 21:36.4. That was enough to earn a spot on the all-conference second team. Her teammate Bailey Eckes placed 23rd with a time of 23:03, just missing out on all-conference recognition by two spots. Noelle Teschner took 35th with her time of 24:40.5.
On the boys’ side, Andrew Lavengood earned a spot on the all-conference second team by placing 13th out of 67 runners with a time of 18:20.1. Lucas Nielsen took 41st place with a time of 20:38.4. Coming in 56th was Lincoln Smith, who had a time of 22:27.1.Rounding out the boys team was Mason Kohnert, who placed 66th with a time of 24:17.6.
Neillsville-Granton The Neillsville-Granton (NG) boys saw one runner earn a place on the all-conference second team. Will Drinka placed 12th to receive that honor. He had a time of 18:17. Next was Hunter Schultz, who placed 25th with a time of 19:17.8. After that, there was a bit of a gap before the next NG runner. Gabe Sheikh came in 52nd place with a time of 21:53.8. Then came Jeremmiah Dorshorst, finishing in 58th with a time of 23:18.1. Koltin Luchterhand took 62nd with a time of 23:35.7. The NG boys finished eighth out of eight teams with a score of 179. The winning team, McDonell Central, had 39 points.
On the girls’ side, Haylee Schultz was the first to cross the finish line for NG. She placed 53rd with a time of 27:07.7. Ella Dittner and Brynn Heck were next for NG, taking 59th and 60th, respectively, both with a time of 28:34.9. Scotlyn Hericks followed, taking 66th place with a time of 33:06.4. Hannah Dorshorst took 67th with a time of 34:53.5. The girls took eighth out of eight teams, with 240 points. Bloomer won the girls conference championship with 18 points.
Spencer TheSpencerboysteamhadthreerunners compete. Camdyn Vogel took 44th place with a time of 20:55.7. Henry Glamm placed 54th with a time of 22:04.8. Finishing 67th was Oscar Chan, with a time of 26:13.5.
Just two Spencer girls completed the race. Tahneya Anderson finished in 25:56.8, good for 49th place, with Savannah Wilke took 57th place at 28:07.1.
Runners from LG, NG and Spencer will all compete at the sectional meet this Saturday, Oct. 26, in Westfield, with the top runners advancing to the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids Nov. 2.
NGL wrestlers compete in preseason events
Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt and Jackson Meyer of the Neillsville-Greeenwood-Loyal wrestling team both competed in preseason wrestling held in Kenosha on Oct. 19. Both athletes wrestled in the Wisconsin Wrestling Team Duals, which consists of over 20 teams from all across the state and a few surrounding states. The team Meyer and Sebesta-Opelt wrestled with consists of high school wrestlers from the central Wisconsin area.
