Tridents putting a lot of miles in before season ends
By Ginna Young The season is drawing to a close for the Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer Trident Swim team, but the hard work and consistency continues.
Oct. 8 vs. Rice Lake (L 116-49) First up on the week, Rice Lake came to call and while the Tridents fell to their competition, 116-49, the team showed what they can do when they all pull together.
“It was a very competitive meet,” said coach Whitney Hanson.
To begin, the 200-yard medley relay of juniors Megan DeWitt, Liv Repka and Abby Fye, and senior Alyxandria Lunemann, placed third, while in the 200-yard individual freestyle, senior Sarah Allard came in first, with sophomore Brooklyn Adisek taking fourth and Repka in fifth. In the 200-yard individual medley, Fye finished in third, with junior Lyra Moffitt placing fourth.
Moving to the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Sidney Heath was fourth and junior Willow Peterson ended in fifth. The 100yard butterfly saw Allard take second and Moffitt was fourth, both with best times this season. The 100-yard freestyle was an exciting race for the Tridents, with Lunemann finishing in second, with a best time this season, while Fye came in fourth and DeWitt placed fifth.
The 500-yard freestyle had Heath finishing in third and freshman Ellie Heath was fifth; both had personal best times. In the 200-yard freestyle relay Fye, Adisek, Moffi tt and Allard took third, with the B Team (Peterson, senior Ella Burr, E. Heath, S. Heath) finishing in fourth.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Lunemann finished in third place, with a best time this season, while DeWitt finished in fifth and Adisek was sixth, with Repka in third for the 100-yard breaststroke The final race of the night was the 400yard freestyle relay, with Team A (Lunemann, S. Heath, DeWitt, Allard) in second, while Team B (Peterson, Adisek, Moffitt, Repka) was fourth.
“With the Trident team having a couple swimmers out this meet, the coaches were very pleased with how the team stepped up, maintaining a positive mindset and cheered one another on,” said Hanson.
Oct. 10 vs. Medford (L 111-55) A couple nights later, the Tridents hosted Medford, with the swim team sporting pink caps, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It was also senior night, with the team recognizing Allard, Burr and Luneman, for their contributions to the squad.
Starting off the event, was the 200 medley relay of DeWitt, Repka, Allard and Lunemann taking second place, in a very close race. The individual events then began, with Fye finishing second in the 200 freestyle, DeWitt taking fourth and E. Heath in sixth. The 200 medley saw Allard end in second, while Lunemann claimed fifth and Moffitt was sixth.
In the 50 freestyle, S. Heath was fourth, with Repka in fifth and Adisek in sixth, while the 100 butterfly had Fye come in first, with her best time this season, and Lunemann notching fourth in that event. Moving on to the 100 freestyle, S. Heath ended in fourth place and Peterson was fifth.
Allard took first place in the 500 freestyle, with a best time this season, of 5:58.60. The 200 freestyle relay was a very close race for first, coming down to the final touch, with Fye, Moffitt, Repka and Lunemann finishing second, and the B Team of Peterson, junior Kiara Howard, Burr and E. Heath taking fourth.
In the 100 backstroke, DeWitt finished in second, Adisek placed third and Moffi tt took fifth. The 100 breaststroke, saw Repka claim second, while in the final race of the night, the 400-yard freestyle relay (S. Heath, DeWitt, Fye, Allard) finishing second) and Team B (Adisek, E. Heath, Peterson, Moffitt) was fourth.
“The Tridents have been putting a lot of miles in the pool, preparing for championships coming up in a couple weeks,” said Hanson.
