Cadott’s cross country program was in action Oct. 10, for a meet at Thorp, where the athletes made a good showing, despite missing some athletes from illness and injury.

“This may have been the best weather of the season, we can only hope this continues for the next three weeks,” said coach Dan Yeager. “While this meet only had nine teams represented, there was quality at both the high school and junior high level.”

Taking fourth place, was the boys team, who was down a man, with junior Saibyn Will out to play in the Honors Jazz Band.

However, individually, sophomore Beau Steinke reached his season goal, by running under 17 minutes, which allowed him to place second, in a time of 16:58. Next in for the Hornets, was sophomore Kaden Roen, who ended in 21st (19:45), followed right behind by sophomore Jon Phelps, in 23rd (19:55), 8 seconds off his personal best.

Freshman Jacob Pilgrim followed that up with 25th place (19:58), while sophomore Garrett Engel was back from injury, finishing in 34th (21:15). Sophomore Klay Handrick ran his best time this year, placing 41st (22:45), with sophomore Max Demulling in 49th (24:30).

On the girls’ side, the team placed third, led by senior Lyla Weggen, in 10th place (22:35), setting a new best, and senior McKenna Steinke, who also set a new personal record, placing 20th (24:33). Senior Mia Weggen also ran a strong race, coming in 23rd (26:01), with freshman Saffron Riley-Starck and sophomore Tessa York racing to the finish line, to place 26th and 27th, respectively (27:30).

Junior Marley Mengel came next, in 32nd and senior Adrianna Goodman ended in 33rd (28:33).

“Sadly, this was our last junior high race of the season,” said Yeager. “We can see great things in the future for our cross country program, if these athletes continue to be willing to put in the effort.”
