By Ginna Young There’s been a lot of success in the pool, for the Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer swim team, which looks to continue as the season nears its finish.

Sept. 28 vs. E.C. North Going up against 10 other teams in the Husky Invite, the Tridents made a good showing, placing eighth.

“This was a great meet for the Trident team, there was a lot of excitement and energy on the deck,” said coach Whitney Hanson. ‘The team has been working very hard this season, and it is very exciting, as the team is starting to see best times and place well in competition.”

Finishing first, with their best time this season, was the 200-yard medley relay of senior Sarah Allard, and juniors Megan DeWitt, Liv Repka and Abby Fye, while the B Team finished third in their heat.

The 200-yard freestyle was also a great event for the Tridents, where junior Willow Peterson came in first, junior with Kiara Howard finishing in second, a best for both this season. In heat two, sophomore Brooklyn Adisek placed first and junior Lyra Moffitt was second, with a new personal best. In the fourth heat, Allard placed first and third overall, with a best time this season, of 2:15.41.

Moving to the 200-yard individual medley, Ellie Heath was fifth in her heat, with a best time this season. In the 50-yard freestyle, Howard placed 34th and senior Ella Burr was sixth, while in heat four, Peterson ended fifth and in in heat five, Moffitt finished first, with Fye coming in second in heat nine.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Fye took second in her heat, while Burr was first in the 100-yard freestyle, with sophomore Sidney Heath taking first in herheat and DeWitt in third. E. Heath claimed third place in the 500-yard freestyle, with a best time this season, and in heat four, Allard placed third.

Team A relay (Adisek, Repka, Peterson, Moffitt) finished in third place in the 200-yard freestyle, with a best time this season, while in the 100yard backstroke, DeWitt notched first, with a best time this season of 1:18, and Adisek finished in fifth, only .62 off her best time this season. Then, in the 100-yard breaststroke, Repka finished third,with a personal best time of 1:22.04.

In the last event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle, Fye, S. Heath, DeWitt and Allard took first, coming in with a new best time for this season.

“Overall, the Tridents had a great meet and we are looking forward to the rest of this season,” said Hanson.

Oct. 3 vs. Antigo The Tridents were again on the road at Antigo, almost a week later, in a dual meet, which ended up being quite close, with a final score of 86-69.

Getting off to a good start, the team had DeWitt, Repka, Allard and Fye take second in the 200 medley relay, while the B Team (Moffitt, senior Alyxandria Lunemann, sophomore Nayeli Schilling, Adisek) was fourth in the event. DeWitt also took second in the 200 individual freestyle, while S. Heath was third, with Fye finishing in fourth and E. Heath in fifth.

Allard was a close second in the 200 individual medley, with Schilling finishing in third. The 50 freestyle saw Lunemann end in third, with Moffitt finishing fifth and Peterson taking sixth. In the 100 butterfly, Allard had a great race and finished with a close second place, while Fye was third.

In the 100 freestyle, Schilling finished in first, holding a consistent time from her previous meet, while Adisek came in third, Peterson finished in fifth and Burr was sixth. The 500 freestyle was also a great event, seeing Lunemann end in second and Moffitt with a best time this season, for third.

The 200 freestyle Team A then took second place and in the 100 backstroke, DeWitt finished second, with a consistent best time this season, while S. Heath was third and Adisek earned a fourth place finish. In the 100 breaststroke, Repka had a great race, pulling ahead and finishing first, holding a consistent time for this season.

In the final event of the night, was the 400 freestyle relay, with S. Heath, DeWitt, Fye and Allard claiming second.

Hanson says the coaches are pleased with how the girls’ racing has come along over the last few weeks, seeing the positive energy.

“Overall, the girls improved in a lot of races from the previous weeks, and have been putting in the work to continue to improve each week,” said Hanson. “Only three more dual meets and the Tridents will be entering their championship season.”

Junior Megan DeWitt was in the pool at home Sept. 26, for the Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer team, in the 200-yard freestyle, as they hosted Mosinee.
