Chieftains can’t come up with a win in week’s play
By Ginna Young
It was a learning experience over the week for the Lake Holcombe volleyball program, as they took on five different opponents.
Sept. 19 vs. Flambeau (L 0-3)
The Chieftains first faced off with Flambeau, in a home conference match, but Lake Holcombe struggled in the sets, dropping them, 25-14, 25-12 and 25-12.
“We are continuing to work on getting our offense going,” said Meddaugh. “There were some nice things going on against Flambeau, but it just didn’t translate into points.”
Senior Emmy Kirkman led with 11 digs, with senior Chloe Lee right behind, with 10. Lee also came away with 6 assists, while Kirkman ended with 8 kills.
“The team is working to move forward and I’m proud of the steps they are making to improve their game,” said Meddaugh.
Sept. 21 vs. Augusta (L 0-2)
It was then off to Eleva-Strum, for a weekend tournament, but once again, offense played a huge part in the day’s match-ups. Augusta was the first foe, taking the win in two sets, 25-17 and 25-14.
Sept. 21 vs. Elmwood-Plum City (L 0-2)
Next up was Elmwood-Plum City, who also claimed the win, 25-8 and 25-12.
Sept. 21 vs. Eleva-Strum (L 0-2)
The Chieftains then played the host team, but couldn’t reel in the win, as the sets went to Eleva-Strum, 25-11 and 25-8.
Sept. 21 vs. Osseo-Fairchild (L 0-2)
Finally, Lake Holcombe went up against Osseo-Fairchild, but dropped those sets, as well, 25-14 and 25-21.
Lee led with 24 digs, followed by sophomore Chloe Irwin, 15. Irwin ended the day with 8 kills and Lee finished with 13 assists.
“We struggled to get our offense going at the Eleva-Strum tournament,” said Meddaugh, “but with missing two players and having to play in rotations that we had not practiced, it was a day of learning for the team.”
