Spencer Rockets lose 4, win 1 in this week’s roundup of games
The Spencer High School varsity girls volleyball team took on Gilman at home on Sept. 17, with Gilman walking away with the win but the Spencer Rockets still not making it far from easy for the Pirates. Gilman won the first set rather decidedly, with a score of 25-12, but Spencer rallied back to win the second in similar fashion, 25-16. In the third set, Gilman quickly took over and won 25-11. Not ready to throw in the towel though, Spencer battled back in the fourth to make it a close set. In the end though, Gilman took the victory, 26-24 to win the match three sets to one.
Shelby Frisch and Carmen Krause each had three ace serves for Spencer. Krause had the best server rating of anyone on her team, with no errors on 16 attempts. She also had the highest serve-receive rating, turning four serves into a playable pass. Krause had 11 kills as well, the most of anyone on her team. Autumn Davis was not far behind, with nine.
Hallie Meyer completed 16 assists while Lydia Lau had seven.
Home tournament Spencer also hosted a home tournament this past Saturday, with two courts of volleyball action going at all times. Matches were played best out of three. The Rockets lost to three teams, with set scores as follows: Rib Lake, 23-25 and 17-25; Weyauwega-Fremont, 24-26 and 20-25; and Prentice, 18-25 and 18-25. However, in their third match of the day, the Rockets picked up a win against Manawa, defeating them in two sets, 25-23 and 25-11.
Hannah Schreiner served up nine ace serves on the day. Of those who served more than once that day, Krause had the highest server rating at 96.4%. She committed an error on only one of her 28 serves. Alexa Stange had the best serve-receive rating of those who received at least five serves, with seven errors out of 72 attempts for a rating of 1.79.
Krause led the way in kills, with 21. Ema Schultz had 17, Davis had nine and Nieman had five. Davis was the only member of her team with a successful solo block. She also assisted in six blocks. Krause assisted in four blocks.
Meyer completed 34 assists on the day while Lau had 16. Alexa Stange showed herself to be a defensive specialist, with 50 digs on the day. The next closest was Meyer with 19.
